Jenny found Mr. Scruffles cowering under a taco stand in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico in the winter of 2009. Skinny with burs stuck in his coat and a sinus infection, she scooped him up and carried him in her arms to the local animal shelter. After a few visits, she ended up fostering him and then fell in love.

Mr. Scruffles is not an easy dog. He is chock-full of personality. If the Guinness Book of World Records had a category for “Largest Variety of Dog Noises” he would be listed. He growls in all pitches, talks in strange whines, and grunts. He likes to nip at everyone’s feet, especially if they are running past him on the sidewalk. He will try to steal take-out food by biting a hole in the bottom of the plastic bag of the unsuspecting passerby. He is passionate about chasing squirrels and likes to let every passing large dog know who’s boss.

But he is also extremely loyal and loving and funny. He waits by the door all day until Jenny or Adam come home, then jumps all the way from the floor directly into their arms. He follows Jenny and Adam around, sitting on their laps constantly while still growling at them if they interrupt his nap. He remembers all his friends and feels complete devotion and passion for them. He is almost ready to add Dr. Nulton and Joanna to his friend bucket , he knows they don’t come any better!
